Did you know, that in 2015, seven of Yorkshire’s most favourite places were given new Mandarin names by the Chinese public?

Translation: A lot of rocks in different shapes

WhitbyAbbey

Translation: Twilight Town

MalhamCove

Translation: White cliff with water crossed

TheShambles

Translation: A narrow street for strolling

FountainsAbbey

Translation: An abbey with deers and fountains

CastleHoward

Translation: Magnificent fairyland palace

7.

Harrogate

Translation: Happy Sea Gate
