Bridlington Dickensian Festival

Bridlington Dickensian Festival takes place each year in Bridlington’s Old Town.

At the Dickensian Festival Day you will be able to ‘Walk in the Footsteps of the Stars of the new Dads Army Film’ as Bridlington’s High Street was transformed to Captain Mainwarings ‘Walmington -On – Sea’ for filming this week which finished Thursday 20th November.BridOldTown

The Shopfronts will still be in place so you can see where Jones The Butchers, Frasers Undertakers and The Royal Oak Walmington On Sea are.

There is over 60 Stalls & Food units up the Georgian High Street & Market Place with Hog Roast, Hot Chocolate Crepes, Baked Potato Oven, Hot Chestnuts, Hot Sausage, Donuts, Mulled Wine, Artisan Breads just some of the delights awaiting the visitors.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up in Dickensian/Victorian theme and we will have a roving photographer who will be taking photographs and awarding spot prizes for Best Dressed.

Last year it is estimated that 4,000 visitors enjoyed The Old Towns Dickensian Festival, which is also promoted by Yorkshire Coast Radio, Radio Humberside, Welcome to Yorkshire & VHEY.

Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival

For its 37th year the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, an event that puts the town at the centre of cutting edge sounds, is hosting 37 world premieres – and 79 UK premieres.

With more than 50 events, the festival (from Friday, November 21, until Sunday, November 30) attracts composers, performers and audience members from all over the world.

This year’s festival, which has received Arts Council funding of £252,000 and is supported by a number of bodies, including Kirklees Council, will feature two Huddersfield lecturers: Philip Thomas, who will perform a solo piano concert; and Australian composer Liza Lim, whose major new work Winding Bodies: 3 Knots will be premiered. Both Philip and Liza are directors of the Centre for Research in New Music at the university.

As well as music and sound, many different languages will be heard at the festival as musicians from as far afield as Germany, Chile, Canada, Norway, the Czech Republic, Spain and Denmark will converge on Huddersfield.

The Holmfirth Art MarketUntitled-1

The Art Market brings the very best art, design and contemporary craft for sale and commission direct from the artists to venues in Yorkshire.

There are two events in Holmfirth coming up in November 2014:

23rd & 30th November 2014 with late night shopping 8-10pm the evening before the main show.

There will be 100 wonderful selected artists and designer-makers selling their own work direct to the public over the two weekends with different artists each weekend plus cafe area, live music, ‘re-luminate’ installation, Vanstallation and Art Auction.

Magnificent Three Kings and Camel Procession at Stockeld Park

‘We three kings of Orient are, Bearing gifts we traverse afar’ – see the new ‘Magnificent Three Kings and Camel Procession’ pass 3 Kings  Camels (1)through the illuminated Enchanted Forest this Saturday 22nd  & Sunday 23rd November at Stockeld Park’s Christmas Adventure.

At 3pm, The Three Kings, bearing gifts, sat astride their Camels will embark on a festive procession led by Shepherds through the Enchanted Forest. As dusk falls families can follow the parade and be captivated by the mystic of this new festival.

The Procession begins at 3pm, plus camel rides are available to purchase from 10am – 3pm. A Camel ride is £5

At the Christmas Adventure visitors can enjoy a range of family fun activities including the magical, illuminated Enchanted Forest, real Ice Skating, a 1.5km Nordic ski trail, an illuminated Yew Maze, plus the Woodland Cafe and a fabulous Christmas shop.  This year the team has also introduced a new 4D Cinematic Sleigh Sensation experience – a sensory sensation that whisks you off on an imaginative journey.
