Cocktails in the City

Cocktails in the City is Yorkshire’s premier cocktail event happening at Leeds Town Hall on 26th March. There will be twenty hand-picked bars, a street food market, secret bars and live music!

With cocktails in the clock tower, prohibition drinks in the courtroom, secret bars in the Victorian cells and a street food market in the crypt curated by the exciting new Leeds Indie Food Festival the night promises an evening of discovery and wonder.

Each “pop up” bar gives you a cocktail masterclass and it is difficult not to be impressed by the skills that some of the mixologists display. The drinks themselves vary between the tried and tested favourites and new, intriguing mixtures too – you’re guaranteed to find yourself a new tipple of choice by the end of proceedings!

The Forum in Sheffield is an eclectic venue with art exhibitions, live music and great food all day every day. They scour Sheffield to bring some incredibly talented and emerging artists to the bar and there’s always something new for you to explore.

To complement their exhibitions, they have some truly delicious cocktails for you to devour. They serve all the classics that you would expect from a cocktail place such as your cosmopolitans, martinis, margaritas and mojitos but where you really want to be visiting is their in-house creations menus.

There’s lots of highlights here, but if I had to pick one, I’d say the Gingerbread Old Fashioned is fantastic. This drink is a twist on the timeless classic as they stir down Maker’s Mark bourbon with Triple Sec, gingerbread syrup and aromatic bitters that delivers a warming kick that’ll get you through till spring.

Lucia’s is located right in the heart of the stylish market town that is Beverley and offers a relaxing retreat from a hard day’s shopping with it’s two storey restaurant and it’s toasty Mediterranean heated courtyard.

Again this bar has plenty of the classics to keep you going, I’m particularly fond of their caipirinhas, which are available in a mixture of different flavours too. For something a little quirky, I would recommend a trip to their frozen daiquiris. These yummy creations mix crushed iced cocktails with fresh fruits and are an ideal accompaniment on a warm summer’s evening. Also, their monthly special cocktails give you a reason to go back time and time again to sample something new!

Can’t get to Beverley? Worry not as Lucia’s also have a bar on Swinegate in York and on Ripon Road in Harrogate. Cheers!
